![]() NME is the only company to have HD Bollywood content. HD VMD's affordability, adherence to current manufacturing processes and speed to market have been embraced by rights holders, electronics distributors and replicators alike. HD-VMD technology is based on a high-capacity red laser optical disc designed by NME, who have developed the world's first commercially produced multilayer disc by mastering the process to increase the number of layers for information storage, with typical storage capacities of 5GB per layer. Recent demos at worldwide events like Cannes Film Festival, CEDIA in the US, IFA in Germany and CeBIT have seen a number of major manufacturing brands excited about licensing the VMD technology. NME will offer players and titles at a price considerably lower than its larger competitors, making it the most accessible HD format yet. This first-generation HD-VMD Player offers true High Definition in 1080p it's also backwards-compatible and capable of playing existing DVD formats. By introducing HD-VMD, NME promises to revolutionize the home entertainment market in Asia with the first HD red laser format available to consumers. Forecasts say it would be some time before HD becomes a true global offering. It also counts film content distributors AP International, Ultra and Eagle as partners for South Indian and Hollywood content, and are in talks with four other major distributors to be announced later this month.ĭespite the proliferation of HD LCD and plasma displays, many consumers, including those in Asia, have little or no access to High Definition content. NME is the first to introduce HD content in India with its HD-VMD Player, along with HD-VMD discs in Hindi, Tamil, English and gradually in other regional languages. ![]() New Medium Enterprises (NME) unveiled HD-VMD Bollywood film titles in India at the Times AV Revolution Expo at Bombay Exhibition Center. A third HD format? That's right, now you have HD-VMD (Versatile Multilayer Disc) as well! Go to the end of this article for technical specs. hell 360 is already in the early stages of this and its successful, apple is leaning that way, and lets say cable companies start to do it, if people start paying for DLC and it catches fire the greedy movie studio's are all going to be offering plenty of choices, its the future except it or just keep laughing at old Bill while he's laughing at you all the way to the bank AGAIN.HD content is here in India, and it's neither Blu-ray nor HD-DVD. Vvvvv well did you read what I said its simple once companies have the medium in place to deliver DLC quickly it will be convenient for the mass consumer to come home sit on the couch and download any movie the choose, which means theres NO format to choose from only thing you have to choose is which HD movie you want to pay for and it will safely remain on a set top box with large storage capacity from you cable company or whoever providing the DLC service. hd dvd and bluray will end up just some small niche market. this format war is going to end up just like music its more convenient for the masses to download HD content and save it to a large capacity storage set top box. both companies and many other companies are already in the early stages of delivering HD download. even if bluray was the only format on the market right now there are no significants signs that consumers are ready to adopt it as the next format which is why the war isn't over despite all your wishing and hd dvd or bluray could end up never taking off before something new or maybe even HD download content takes off. in fact if you add hd dvd & bluray players and movies sales all together it barely is scratching the surface of what is needed to become the mainstream format. basicly sony console accounts for 90% or something like that of total bluray players sold, so other than sony kids it doesn't seem like most of the public is interested. You sony kids just don't get it do you? even if hd dvd didn't exist the format war wouldn't be over because that doesn't mean the mass market would all over a sudden start buying bluray players.
